Twilight and 5 Reasons Why I Hate It

By Real Dad, November 12, 2009 11:04 pm

Simple and to the point:

  1. What kind of vampire doesn’t rip apart the pretty young girl?….a sissy vampire is my guess
  2. Twilight is all I hear from my wife.
  3. My wife watched the bonus DVD footage….I didn’t know that she knew what bonus footage or extras were
  4. Twilight takes away from my “fun” time…in addition to the kids, school work, cleaning, cooking and everything else involved with being a mom!
  5. I didn’t think of the story and publish the book myself…..that creative bitch!

I know that this is old news but Twilight is new to my house. My wife has heard about Twilight from friends and family but routinely said that she would never read the book or watch the movie. Something happened recently

I hate all of these people!

I hate all of these people!

and she was convinced to read the book. “Twilight” hasn’t stopped since! She has since been given the second and third books, completing the second book in 2 or 3 nights and she purchased the DVD. She is always looking in the gossip magazines for stories and it drives me nuts.

I thank god that my daughter is only 4 and has no knowledge of Twilight! I know my day will come when she is also obsessed with something…..in due time…in due time! Twilight just makes me sick and I don’t know why.

  1. You are just jealous that YOU don’t sparkle in the sunlight and are not a hawt wolf-boy in training!

I have read all four books, and the first three twice. I LOVE the books! I am in fact in love with a 17 werewolf, thank you very much, because of this series!

I bet if you read the books and quoted them, you would have more FUN TIME with the little lady. I am just saying. I am a woman and I love Twilight. I know these things. Now leave me alone…I need to go and dream of Jacob!

Hmmm….I have not read the Twilight series nor have I seen the movie. I bought the movie months ago and it’s been sitting, unopened….You have intrigued me to now open it and watch it. I am currently indifferent to Twilight….this can be an interesting experiment….will I like? will I love it? Hate it?? I will let you know!

I hope you wind up on my side! However I am not being fair because I did not read the books or watch the movie however the wife fills me in whether I want to hear it or not!

  3. Sarah says:

Hmm. I’m not sure I have an opinion one way or the other about this whole Twilight success. To be honest, I didn’t even know anything about the movie until my husband brought it home. I didn’t know anything about the books, either. However, the movie did prove to be mildly entertaining and I could understand why people would be so enraptured, I think. I think people are drawn to a confident portrayal of the dark side…er, something like that.

I have to say that I AM happy that it is a book-turned-movie success. Books deserve the credit, even if they aren’t my favorite genre. And damn! I’m totally with you on Number 5!

  4. We borrowed the movie, and I didn’t like it much. It seemed like they were trying to be too romantic-goth-mysterious. As for the books- haven’t read them, and have too many others on my list to put them on it.

    • Mike says:

I just refuse to give it a chance because I am sick of it. My wife is consumed with it now and for the longest time she was annoyed by the hype. I refuse to read the books as my wife is requesting because I may just like it…then I will look like a huge ass!

  5. Somehow, our little household filled with testosterone has missed ALL this Twilight stuff. As I am (myself) of a Wolfen clan, what am I missing? What are my kids missing?

    • Mike says:

That is a good question! I have no desire. This house is sprinkled with testosterone…my daughter has more then me and my oldest son and my youngest has more dorkosterone then testosterone. Anyway….I will leave Twilight to my wife!

  6. Natalie says:

My MIL just got them to read. My daughter has been nagging me about them, so I have to read them in order to judge whether or not she can read them.

I refuse to be sucked in.
    Refuse.

Thanks for stopping by Natalie! I refuse too! Thankful that my daughter is only 4. My wife said that she wouldn’t let our daughter read the books or watch the movie until she was in her teens but my wife isn’t a good measuring stick because she is uptight about stuff like that. Don’t look at me either; I am trying to teach my oldest (he is 6) about the soft porn on Cinemax at night but she puts a stop to that right away! :)

  7. Kristen says:

    I’m with you.

My book club read the first book in the series last year and, while I admit that I found it hard to put down, I was troubled by the false bill of goods it sells to girls (and guys, for that matter): what kind of heroine is Bella anyway? She seems to mope around, waiting to be rescued. Not a role model in my book.

    • Mike says:

Thanks Kristen! I told my wife that you said about Bella and she got all upset saying Bella always worries about Edward and saves him from stuff. HOLY CRAP…I know about this story and I haven’t read one word. See what I mean…SHE WON’T STOP!! HELP!

  8. Natalie says:

Well as someone who is frequently caught “pausing” on Skinemax…oh,nothing. I just wanted to say I get caught looking at soft porn. :)

Hey! You can compromise and watch True Blood! Always naked vampires!

  9. Keith Rispin says:

Ya I cannot understand the attraction but then again I haven’t taken more than about 10 seconds of my time to look into it.

Some of my 10 year old’s friends are reading the books but both my wife and I simply flat out say “NO” to getting any of the books. There is nothing stopping her when she is at school I suppose but I am hoping to keep her from the Twilight, Gossip Girl type trash for as long as possible.

Thanks for the comment! From what my wife says about the books and movie, I do not blame you at all. I am all Twilighted out and that comes from my 34 yr old wife!
